Where is HSR Layout?

HSR Layout sits in south-east Bengaluru, close to where the Outer Ring Road, Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road converge. Koramangala lies to the north-west, Bellandur to the north-east, and BTM Layout to the west. Silk Board Junction — one of the city's most notorious interchanges — sits immediately to the south-west.

That position is the single most important thing to understand about the neighbourhood. HSR Layout is not a destination people pass through on the way somewhere else; it is a pocket of planned residential streets sitting just off three major arteries. You get arterial access without arterial noise, provided you pick the right sector.

How is HSR Layout laid out?

The layout is divided into seven sectors, built on a grid of wide roads and regular intersections — unusual for Bengaluru, where most neighbourhoods grew organically. Main roads run north–south and cross roads run east–west, which is why addresses here read as a main-and-cross pair rather than a street name.

The layout is also small: no two sector centres are more than 1.9 km apart. So choosing a sector is a decision about what you can walk to — a food street, a metro station site, or nothing but residential streets — rather than about how far you will drive.

Does HSR Layout have a metro station?

Not yet — but one is coming. This is the detail most often reported incorrectly, so it is worth stating precisely:

• The HSR Layout metro station is on the Blue Line, part of Phase 2A running along the Outer Ring Road. It is under construction. Its opening was revised from June 2026 to around December 2026, and in August 2026 the Times of India reported that the Silk Board–KR Pura section is now expected to be completed in 2027.
• The Yellow Line (RV Road–Bommasandra) is already operational — it opened on 10 August 2025 and runs 19.15 km across 16 stations along Hosur Road. Its nearest stations to HSR Layout are Bommanahalli and Hongasandra on Hosur Road, 1.1 to 3.2 km on foot from the seven sector centres by OpenStreetMap walking route (measured 4 October 2026); our sectors guide gives each sector's figure.
• When the Blue Line opens, HSR Layout will interchange with the Yellow Line at Central Silk Board, connecting the neighbourhood to both the Electronic City corridor and, via the Blue Line, the route toward Kempegowda International Airport.

How long are the commutes from HSR Layout?

HSR Layout's main draw for working professionals is proximity to the Outer Ring Road tech corridor. Approximate road distances, measured from around the centre of the layout:

Treat these as distances, not promises. Bengaluru traffic makes journey times highly variable, and the same 8 km can take 25 minutes or an hour depending on the time of day and what Silk Board is doing. What is HSR Layout known for?

Startup and café density

HSR Layout built a reputation as one of Bengaluru's earliest startup clusters, and the cafés and restaurants followed the workforce. They sit inside the grid rather than on the arterial roads: in an OpenStreetMap count on 15 September 2026, 222 of the 284 places to eat and drink mapped inside the seven sectors were within 50 m of just six streets, led by the parallel 17th and 18th Cross Roads rather than the better-known 27th Main.

Agara Lake

Agara Lake sits on the edge of the layout and functions as the neighbourhood's green lung, with a maintained walking and jogging track around it. It is a genuine amenity rather than a marketing line — early mornings bring walkers, runners and birdwatchers. One lap of the Agara Lake Trail is about 2.4 km on OpenStreetMap, lit and closed to bicycles, with a separate 2.5 km cycle track beside it. A planned grid in an unplanned city

The BDA grid is the quiet advantage. Wide roads, numbered sectors and regular intersections make HSR Layout easier to navigate, easier to give directions in, and less prone to the dead ends and one-way tangles that characterise older parts of Bengaluru.

Who does HSR Layout suit?

• People working along the ORR corridor — Bellandur, Ecospace, Embassy TechVillage and the surrounding tech parks are all within a short drive.
• Professionals relocating to Bengaluru who want a neighbourhood that is legible from day one, with amenities in walking distance.
• Startup and product teams, for the density of peers, cafés and co-working space.
• Longer-stay visitors who would rather live in a functioning neighbourhood than a hotel district.

It suits people less well if you work in the north or west of the city — Whitefield, Hebbal or the CBD are all meaningful cross-city commutes from here, and the Blue Line will only partly change that.

HSR Layout is in south-east Bengaluru, pin code 560102, near the point where the Outer Ring Road, Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road meet. It sits between Koramangala to the north-west and Bellandur to the north-east.

Not yet. The HSR Layout metro station is on the Blue Line, part of Phase 2A along the Outer Ring Road, and is under construction, with passenger service now reported for 2027. The nearest operational stations today are Bommanahalli and Hongasandra on the Yellow Line, which opened on 10 August 2025; from the seven sector centres the nearer of the two is 1.1 to 3.2 km on foot.

It suits people working along the Outer Ring Road corridor particularly well. Ecospace Bellandur is roughly 5–6 km away and Embassy TechVillage roughly 8.5 km, and the layout's planned grid means quieter residential streets sit close to the arterial roads without being on them.
