A BESCOM home electricity bill for 2026-27 is ₹150 per kW of sanctioned load plus ₹5.80 per unit, plus 9% tax on those two, plus 35 paise and 56 paise per unit in surcharges. For 200 units on a 3 kW connection that is about ₹1,937 a month; for 100 units on 2 kW, about ₹1,050. There are no slabs: every unit costs the same.

How is a BESCOM bill calculated in 2026-27?
Five charges make up a BESCOM domestic bill this year, and only the fixed charge does not depend on how much you use. Here is the arithmetic for 200 units on a 3 kW connection:
| Line on the bill | How it is worked out | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed charge | 3 kW × ₹150 | ₹450 |
| Energy charge | 200 units × ₹5.80 | ₹1,160 |
| Electricity tax | 9% of ₹1,610 | ₹145 |
| Pension and gratuity surcharge | 200 units × 35 paise | ₹70 |
| FY 2024-25 true-up | 200 units × 56 paise | ₹112 |
| Estimated bill | ₹1,937 |
The fuel and power purchase cost adjustment, which BESCOM revises every quarter, is left out because it changes during the year; it usually moves the bill by a few paise a unit either way.
What are the BESCOM tariff rates for 2026-27?
KERC set the domestic rates for three years in its Combined Tariff Order 2025, dated 27 March 2025. The domestic category is now called LT-1, and since that order it has a single slab: no 0–100 and 100-plus bands.
| Charge (LT-1 domestic) | 2025-26 | 2026-27 | 2027-28 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed charge, per kW per month | ₹145 | ₹150 | ₹160 |
| Energy charge, per unit | ₹5.80 | ₹5.80 | ₹5.75 |
| Pension and gratuity surcharge, per unit | 36 paise | 35 paise | 34 paise |
| FY 2024-25 true-up, per unit | — | 56 paise (1 May 2026 – 30 April 2027) | — |
| Electricity tax | 9% of the fixed and energy charges | ||
Sources: the fixed and energy charges are from KERC's Combined Tariff Order 2025 (Tariff Schedule LT-1). The pension and gratuity surcharge is from KERC's separate order of 18 March 2025, as reported by Deccan Herald. The 56 paise true-up is from KERC's April 2026 annual performance review for BESCOM. The 9% electricity tax is the Karnataka government's levy on domestic consumption. Rates checked 4 October 2026.
How much electricity does a flat in Bengaluru use?
It depends mostly on air conditioning and water heating. Use the table to see what a given month costs at the two most common sanctioned loads.
| Units in the month | Bill on 2 kW | Bill on 3 kW |
|---|---|---|
| 100 units | ₹1,050 | ₹1,214 |
| 150 units | ₹1,412 | ₹1,575 |
| 200 units | ₹1,773 | ₹1,937 |
| 300 units | ₹2,497 | ₹2,660 |
| 400 units | ₹3,220 | ₹3,383 |
All figures are estimates on the 2026-27 rates above, without the fuel cost adjustment and without Gruha Jyothi. The 1 kW difference in sanctioned load costs ₹150 a month plus tax whatever you use, so it is worth checking that your sanctioned load is not higher than you need.
How does Gruha Jyothi change the bill?
Gruha Jyothi makes electricity free for an enrolled household up to its eligible entitlement, which is its past average use plus a margin and can never exceed 200 units a month. Three cases follow:
| Your use this month | What you pay |
|---|---|
| At or below your entitlement | Nothing |
| Above your entitlement, up to 200 units | The units above your entitlement |
| Above 200 units | The full bill for the month |
Gruha Jyothi users are exempt from the pension and gratuity surcharge. Tenants can enrol too, with paperwork built around a lease; our cost of living guide explains what a tenant needs. How BESCOM splits the fixed charge on a part-free month is not published in a form we could verify, so the calculator's figure for that case is an estimate.
Common questions about BESCOM bills
A BESCOM domestic bill for 2026-27 is a fixed charge of ₹150 per kW of sanctioned load, plus ₹5.80 for every unit used, plus 9% electricity tax on those two, plus a 35 paise pension and gratuity surcharge and a 56 paise true-up charge per unit. For 200 units on a 3 kW connection that comes to about ₹1,937, before any fuel cost adjustment.
The BESCOM energy charge for domestic homes is ₹5.80 per unit for 2026-27, set by KERC's tariff order of 27 March 2025. It is a single flat rate with no slabs, so the 50th unit and the 300th unit cost the same. Surcharges add another 91 paise a unit, and tax adds 9% of the energy and fixed charges.
No. KERC's 2025 tariff order moved domestic LT-1 connections to a single slab for both the fixed charge and the energy charge. Older calculators that show 0–100 and above-100 unit slabs are out of date.
₹150 per kW of sanctioned load per month for 2026-27, up from ₹145 in 2025-26 and rising to ₹160 in 2027-28. Load is rounded to the nearest quarter kW and billed at a minimum of 1 kW. The fixed charge is payable even in a month when you use no electricity.
It is a recovery of BESCOM's revenue shortfall for 2024-25, which KERC allowed it to collect at 56 paise per unit on electricity used between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2027. It appears as a separate line on the bill.
A household enrolled in Gruha Jyothi pays nothing if its monthly use stays within its eligible entitlement, which is its past average plus a margin and never more than 200 units. Use above the entitlement but under 200 units is billed for the extra units; above 200 units in a month, the full bill applies. Gruha Jyothi users are exempt from the pension and gratuity surcharge.
The calculator leaves out the fuel and power purchase cost adjustment, which BESCOM revises every quarter and can add or subtract a few paise a unit, and any arrears, interest or rounding. It also assumes the whole month falls in the 2026-27 tariff year.
