How many sectors does HSR Layout have?

HSR Layout has seven sectors, numbered 1 to 7. Sectors 1 and 2 sit on the eastern side and carry most of the commercial activity along 27th Main Road. Sectors 3 to 7 are quieter and predominantly residential.

HSR Layout is short for Hosur–Sarjapur Road Layout. It was laid out by the Bangalore Development Authority from 1985 in south-east Bengaluru, pin code 560102, on land associated with Agara Lake. Unlike most of Bengaluru, which grew organically, it was planned as a grid: main roads run north–south and cross roads run east–west, which is why addresses here read as a main-and-cross pair rather than a street name.

Where does each sector sit?

The seven sectors are not arranged in a simple 1-to-7 line. Read east to west: Sectors 1 and 2 are the eastern pair, Sectors 3 and 4 the middle pair, and Sectors 5, 6 and 7 the western group. Read north to south: Sector 5 is the northernmost sector centre and Sectors 2, 3 and 7 the southernmost.

Locality names come from OpenStreetMap's own addressing. Only some sectors carry an older village or colony name — Sector 3 has none attached, and MCHS Colony appears in both Sector 4 and Sector 6, so a colony name alone is not enough to identify a sector in an address.

Which sector of HSR Layout is closest to the metro station?

Sectors 5 and 6 are closest to the HSR Layout metro station site, both about 0.3 km from their sector centre in a straight line. Sector 6 is also the closest sector to Central Silk Board, at about 1.2 km, which matters because Central Silk Board is the only metro station near HSR Layout that is open today.

This is the single biggest practical difference between the sectors, because HSR Layout is served by two future Blue Line stations rather than one, at opposite ends of the layout. Sectors 5 and 6 are the HSR Layout station's catchment; Sectors 1 and 4 are Agara station's.

Neither Blue Line station is open. Both are under construction as at August 2026, and BMRCL has said trial runs on the Phase 2A corridor begin in October 2026 — trial runs are systems testing, not passenger service. Which sector of HSR Layout is the commercial one?

Sectors 1 and 2. Both are addressed along 27th Main Road, the north–south road that carries most of HSR Layout's restaurants, cafés and shopfronts. Sector 1 holds its northern end near Agara and Sarjapur Road; Sector 2 holds its southern end near Parangipalya.

That is the split people mean when they say the layout has a "commercial side" and a "quiet side". It is worth being precise about what it does and does not mean. It does not mean Sectors 3 to 7 are without shops — a BDA layout puts local retail in every sector. It means the concentration of eating and drinking that HSR Layout is known for city-wide sits along one road, on the eastern edge, in two sectors.

Is there a big difference between the HSR Layout sectors?

Less than people expect in distance, more than people expect in character. No two sector centres in HSR Layout are more than 1.9 km apart, so everything in the layout is within a short drive of everything else. What genuinely differs is what each sector is within walking distance of — the commercial spine, a metro station site, or nothing but residential streets.

The 1.9 km figure is the widest gap in the layout, between the centres of Sector 2 and Sector 6. The whole grid spans roughly 1.9 km east to west and 1.0 km north to south between sector centres. For anyone choosing where to stay, the practical consequence is that picking a sector is a decision about walking, not about driving. If you will have a car or use a cab, the sector barely matters. If you want to walk to a metro station or to dinner, it decides everything.

Agara Lake sits on the northern edge of HSR Layout, between Sector 1 and Sector 4, at roughly 12.9202°N, 77.6418°E. Sector 4 is the closest sector centre to it at about 0.6 km in a straight line, followed by Sector 5 at about 0.8 km and Sector 1 at about 0.9 km.

The lake matters to the layout's history as well as its geography: HSR Layout was developed on land associated with Agara Lake, and the lake keeps a maintained walking and jogging track that is the neighbourhood's main outdoor space. The future Agara metro station takes its name from it and sits on the Outer Ring Road immediately north of it.
