Getting Around HSR Layout Without a Car
Where HSR Layout's buses actually stop, which stop to walk to for each part of the city, what bus passes, metro tickets and autos cost, and where bike taxis stand — counted from BMTC's own route data rather than guessed.
Yes. HSR Layout has 37 BMTC bus stops served by 93 route numbers, but most routes stop on its edges, on the Outer Ring Road and at Agara Junction, not in the middle. The nearest open metro station is 1.1–1.5 km on foot from Sectors 6 and 7, and metered autos start at ₹36.
Most advice on getting around Bengaluru without a car is written for the whole city. This page is written for one neighbourhood. We took BMTC's route and stop data, placed every stop inside or outside HSR Layout's seven sectors, and counted which routes serve which corner of the layout. We then measured the walk to each important stop from 20th Cross Road in Sector 7, where HSR Stay is being built, and checked the current price of every pass, ticket and fare. This page is part of our guide to commuting from HSR Layout.
Where do buses actually stop in HSR Layout?
On the edges. Sector 1 alone has 86 route numbers, because it contains Agara Junction, where Sarjapur Road meets the Outer Ring Road. Sectors 4, 5 and 6 each have 46–54, because they front the Outer Ring Road. Sectors 3 and 7, in the middle and south of the layout, have one or two.
| Sector | Named bus stops | Route numbers | What runs there |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 14 | 86 | Agara Junction and 27th Main: the 342-series to Koramangala and Majestic, and the 500-series on the ORR |
| 2 | 8 | 11 | 27th Main and Parangipalya: route 340-A to Majestic, and KIA-7 to the airport |
| 3 | 4 | 2 | Route 342 and the HSR feeder loop only |
| 4 | 8 | 54 | Outer Ring Road stops at Depot-25 Gate |
| 5 | 2 | 46 | Outer Ring Road stops at the 14th Main junction |
| 6 | 5 | 52 | Outer Ring Road stops at SI Apartment and 14th Main, and the BDA Complex stop |
| 7 | 5 | 1 | The HSR feeder loop only |
BMTC route numbers serving stops inside each sector, bmtc-gtfs feed of 7 September 2026. A stop on a road that forms a sector boundary counts in both sectors, so the columns do not add up to 37 and 93.
The pattern is simple once you see it. The Outer Ring Road carries the long east–west routes, the 500-series between Banashankari, Central Silk Board, Marathahalli, KR Pura and Hebbal, including their Vajra air-conditioned versions. Agara Junction carries the routes into the city, the 342-series and 340-A along Sarjapur Road through Koramangala. Inside the grid there is almost nothing, apart from a feeder.
The feeder is route HSR FDR-1 (and its reverse, FDR-1A), a loop that starts and ends at Agara Junction. It runs through Sectors 1, 2, 3 and 7, stopping at the McDonald's circle, Srirangam Silk House and Vasudev Adigas on its way, and at Depot-25 Gate on the ORR. In practice it is how the interior of the layout reaches the two big stops.
Which bus stop should you use for each destination?
Walk to the Outer Ring Road for anywhere on the ring, and go to Agara Junction for Koramangala and the city centre. The table lists, for common destinations, the route numbers that run there directly from an HSR Layout stop, where to board, and how far that stop is on foot from 20th Cross Road in Sector 7.
| Destination | Direct routes (examples) | Board at | Walk from 20th Cross Rd |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electronic City | V-500E, V-505, 500-DM, 356-CW (11) | Outer Ring Road stops at 14th Main or SI Apartment | 1.2–1.4 km |
| Whitefield, ITPL, Kadugodi | 500-F, 500-CA, 500-CK, V-500F, V-500CA, V-505 (10) | 14th Main or SI Apartment, ORR | 1.2 km |
| Marathahalli | Most of the 500-series (38) | 14th Main or SI Apartment, ORR | 1.2 km |
| KR Pura metro station | V-MF1C, V-MF1D (metro feeders) | 14th Main or SI Apartment, ORR | 1.2 km |
| Hebbal | 500-D, 500-A, V-500D (19) | 14th Main or SI Apartment, ORR | 1.2 km |
| Banashankari | 500-A, 500-C, 500-L, V-500CA (14) | 14th Main or SI Apartment, ORR | 1.2–1.4 km |
| Kempegowda International Airport | KIA-7A, KIA-7; KIA-8 series | BDA Complex (KIA-7A starts here); SI Apartment for KIA-8 | 0.7 km; 1.2 km |
| Koramangala | 342-series, 340-A, 171 (33) | Agara Junction | 2.8 km, or the feeder |
| Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) | 340-A, 342-F, 171, V-342F (7) | Agara Junction | 2.8 km, or the feeder |
Routes that call at an HSR Layout stop and then at the destination, bmtc-gtfs feed of 7 September 2026. Numbers in brackets count the direct route numbers from the busiest of the boarding stops listed. Walking distances are OpenStreetMap foot routes, 13 October 2026. Use the side of the road for your direction.
Two prefixes are worth learning. Routes starting "V-" are Vajra air-conditioned buses, which cost more and are not covered by an ordinary pass. Routes starting "KIA-" are Vayu Vajra airport buses, with their own pass. The airport is covered in more detail in our commuting guide, and what is at the BDA Complex stop in our guide to the HSR BDA Complex.
How far is the nearest bus stop from HSR Stay?
The nearest stop is about 0.2 km from 20th Cross Road, but it is served only by the feeder loop. The nearest stop with routes across the city is BDA Complex, about 0.7 km, and the main Outer Ring Road stops are about 1.2 km. We publish this for HSR Stay's own street because it is the honest picture of Sector 7: quiet and residential, with the main bus corridors a 10–20 minute walk away.
| Stop or station | What it serves | On foot from 20th Cross Rd |
|---|---|---|
| Vasudev Adigas Hotel (bus stop) | HSR feeder loop | 0.19 km · about 2 min |
| Srirangam Silk House (bus stop) | HSR feeder loop | 0.36 km · about 5 min |
| BDA Complex HSR Layout (bus stop) | 7 routes, including KIA-7A to the airport and 342 | 0.73 km · about 10 min |
| 14th Main HSR Layout, Outer Ring Road | 38 routes, ORR 500-series and Vajra | 1.15 km · about 15 min |
| SI Apartment HSR Layout, Outer Ring Road | 47 routes, including KIA-8 to the airport | 1.19 km · about 16 min |
| Bommanahalli metro (Yellow Line, open) | Yellow Line to Electronic City and RV Road | 1.44 km · about 19 min |
| Hongasandra metro (Yellow Line, open) | Yellow Line | 1.65 km · about 22 min |
| Depot-25 Gate, Outer Ring Road | 43 routes | 1.70 km · about 23 min |
| Agara Junction | 78 routes, the most in HSR Layout | 2.83 km · about 38 min |

What does a BMTC bus pass cost, and how do you buy one?
An ordinary BMTC monthly pass costs ₹1,200, a Vajra air-conditioned monthly pass ₹2,000, and a Vayu Vajra airport monthly pass ₹4,000. These are the prices from BMTC's January 2025 revision, when Karnataka's state bus corporations raised fares by about 15%. We found no later revision as at October 2026.
| Pass | Ordinary | Vajra (AC, "V-" routes) | Vayu Vajra (airport, "KIA-" routes) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily | ₹80 | ₹140 | — |
| Weekly | ₹350 | — | — |
| Monthly | ₹1,200 | ₹2,000 | ₹4,000 |
Prices as reported when BMTC revised them in January 2025 (Daily Jagran, 10 January 2025). BMTC is the authority; check the Tummoc app for the price at the time you buy.
- Passes are digital. Since 15 September 2024 BMTC has issued daily, weekly and monthly passes only in digital form, bought in the Tummoc app (Deccan Herald). You add a photo and the last four digits of an identity document, pay, and get a pass with a QR code. You must carry the identity document you registered with when you travel.
- The monthly pass pays for itself in 15 days. Fifteen ordinary daily passes at ₹80 cost the same as one ₹1,200 monthly pass. If you will ride the bus on 15 days or more in a month, buy the monthly pass.
- A Vajra pass does not cover the airport. The ₹2,000 Vajra pass is for the city's AC routes. The KIA- airport routes need the separate ₹4,000 Vayu Vajra pass or a ticket.
- Women resident in Karnataka ride ordinary buses free. The state's Shakti scheme, launched in June 2023, gives free travel on non-AC BMTC buses to women who are residents of Karnataka. Residence is shown with a government photo ID carrying a Karnataka address. It does not cover Vajra or Vayu Vajra buses. A woman who has just moved with an out-of-state address on her ID will usually pay until she updates it, which is one reason our guide to relocating to Bangalore puts the Aadhaar address change early.
How do you use the metro from HSR Layout today?
Walk or take an auto to Bommanahalli or Hongasandra on the Yellow Line, 1.4–1.7 km from 20th Cross Road. The Yellow Line, open since August 2025, runs south to Electronic City and north to Central Silk Board and RV Road, where it meets the Green Line. HSR Layout's own Blue Line station, about 1.1 km on foot from 20th Cross Road, is still under construction; passenger service was reported in August 2026 to be expected in 2027. Our HSR Layout metro guide tracks every date in circulation.
- QR tickets need no card and no local address. BMRCL sells single-journey QR tickets in its Namma Metro app and on WhatsApp: send "Hi" to +91 81055 56677. They are also sold in Paytm, and since July 2025 in several apps on the ONDC network, including Namma Yatri and Rapido.
- A smart card or NCMC card is cheaper if you ride often. It takes 5% off the fare at peak hours and 10% off at other times, on Sundays and on national holidays. Cards are bought at station counters and topped up in the Namma Metro app, on WhatsApp or at the station.
- We do not publish a card price. The issue fee, minimum balance and maximum balance for Namma Metro cards are quoted inconsistently online, and the bank-issued NCMC card has its own fee table. Ask at the station counter.
- Fares run from ₹10 to ₹90 by distance. Bommanahalli to Electronic City is six stops. Every station-to-station fare, including card discounts, is in our Namma Metro fare calculator. BMRCL also sells one-, three- and five-day tourist cards, priced at ₹300, ₹600 and ₹800 at the February 2025 revision.
For commuting south, the metro is already the better option: our guide to HSR Layout to Electronic City explains which station to get off at. For commuting north-east along the ORR, it is not yet, as our Whitefield guide sets out.
What do autos cost in HSR Layout?
Bengaluru's metered auto fare is ₹36 for the first 2 km and ₹18 for each kilometre after that, and one and a half times that between 10 pm and 5 am. The rates have applied since 1 August 2025, under a government notification of 14 July 2025, and replaced the 2021 rate of ₹30 plus ₹15 a kilometre.
| Trip on the meter | Day | 10 pm – 5 am |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 2 km (the minimum fare) | ₹36 | ₹54 |
| 3 km | ₹54 | ₹81 |
| 5 km | ₹90 | ₹135 |
Arithmetic on the 1 August 2025 meter rates. Road distance is usually a little longer than the walking route.
Two things change the price in practice. Auto unions objected to the 2025 revision, and some drivers quote a fixed fare instead of using the meter, so agree the fare or ask for the meter before you set off. And apps that book autos, including Namma Yatri, Ola, Uber and Rapido, set their own prices, which can be above or below the meter at different times of day.
Can you use bike taxis in Bengaluru?
Bike taxis are legally contested in Karnataka, and their status can change from month to month. As at October 2026 the position, from news reports, is:
| When | What happened |
|---|---|
| April–June 2025 | A single-judge order of the Karnataka High Court of 2 April 2025 restrained bike taxi operations, and they stopped in June 2025. |
| 23 January 2026 | A division bench of the High Court lifted the ban. It held that motorcycles used as bike taxis can be registered as transport vehicles, and directed the state to process permits. |
| April 2026 | The Karnataka government appealed to the Supreme Court. |
| From 5 August 2026 | The state Transport Department resumed seizing bike taxis in Bengaluru, seizing 263 in its first drive and more than 500 within about a week. Ride-hailing apps kept offering the option. |
For a visitor, that means a bike taxi may be available in an app on one day, and a ride may be stopped on another. Do not plan a daily commute around one until the Supreme Court has ruled. Search interest shows how much this matters to people in the city: Google searches for "bike taxi bangalore" in India rose from about 1,300 a month in July 2026 to about 18,100 in August, the month the seizures resumed.
Which part of HSR Layout is easiest without a car?
It depends on where you are going. For buses, the edges of the layout are best. For the metro, Sectors 6 and 7 are best.
- Sector 1, around Agara Junction, has the most bus routes in HSR Layout and the direct buses into Koramangala and the city centre. It is also the furthest sector from the open metro: its centre is about 3.2 km on foot from Bommanahalli.
- Sectors 4, 5 and 6 front the Outer Ring Road stops. Sector 6 is also the closest sector to the open metro, about 1.1 km on foot from Bommanahalli, as our sector guide measures.
- Sectors 3 and 7, in the interior, are the quietest and have the fewest buses: the feeder loop, and route 342 in Sector 3. Sector 7 is second-closest to the open metro. From 20th Cross Road the Outer Ring Road stops are about 1.2 km on foot and Bommanahalli metro about 1.4 km.
For a stay of weeks or months without a car, a common pattern is: walk or take a short auto to the ORR or the metro for daily commutes, use autos for errands inside the layout, and use the feeder or an auto to reach Agara Junction for trips into the city. What you need day to day within walking distance of Sector 7 is listed on our location page, and what it all costs in our cost-of-living guide.
What will change when the Blue Line opens?
HSR Layout gets its own metro station, on the Outer Ring Road at the edge of Sector 6. The station site is about 1.1 km on foot from 20th Cross Road, and one stop from Central Silk Board, where the Blue Line meets the Yellow Line. The Blue Line runs north-east along the Outer Ring Road to KR Pura, the same corridor the 500-series buses serve today. When it opens, the ORR bus stops in the table above are the commutes the metro is most likely to take over. Until then, the buses are the only public transport along that stretch of road.
Common questions about getting around HSR Layout without a car
Yes, for most journeys. In BMTC's September 2026 route data, 93 bus route numbers stop at 37 named bus stops inside HSR Layout's seven sectors, the nearest open metro station, Bommanahalli on the Yellow Line, is 1.1 to 1.5 km on foot from Sectors 6 and 7, and metered autos cost 36 rupees for the first 2 km. The catch is that the buses run on the edges of the layout, along the Outer Ring Road and at Agara Junction, so the interior of Sectors 3 and 7 is served only by a local feeder loop.
Agara Junction, at the north-east corner of HSR Layout in Sector 1, is served by 78 BMTC route numbers in the September 2026 route data, including the 342-series to Koramangala and Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) and the 500-series along the Outer Ring Road. The busiest stops on the western side are on the Outer Ring Road: SI Apartment HSR Layout with 47 route numbers and the stops at the 14th Main junction with 38 to 40.
A BMTC monthly pass costs 1,200 rupees for ordinary buses, 2,000 rupees for Vajra air-conditioned buses and 4,000 rupees for the Vayu Vajra airport buses. A daily pass costs 80 rupees ordinary or 140 rupees Vajra, and an ordinary weekly pass costs 350 rupees. These are the prices set in BMTC's January 2025 revision; we found no later revision as at October 2026. BMTC passes are issued digitally, in the Tummoc app.
The nearest open metro station to HSR Layout is Bommanahalli on Namma Metro's Yellow Line, about 1.4 km on foot from 20th Cross Road in Sector 7, followed by Hongasandra at about 1.7 km. HSR Layout's own station is on the Blue Line, which is still under construction; passenger service was reported in August 2026 to be expected in 2027.
Buy a QR ticket on your phone. BMRCL sells QR tickets in its Namma Metro app and through a WhatsApp chatbot on +91 81055 56677, and they are also sold in Paytm and, since July 2025, in several apps on the ONDC network, including Namma Yatri and Rapido. You scan the QR code at the gate instead of a token or card.
Bengaluru's metered auto fare is 36 rupees for the first 2 km and 18 rupees for each kilometre after that, in force since 1 August 2025. Between 10 pm and 5 am the fare is one and a half times the day rate. A 5 km ride therefore costs 90 rupees by day and 135 rupees at night on the meter. Fares quoted in ride-hailing apps can differ from the meter.
Their legal position is unsettled. In January 2026 a division bench of the Karnataka High Court lifted the state's ban, holding that bike taxis can be registered and permitted as transport vehicles. Karnataka appealed to the Supreme Court, and in August 2026 the state Transport Department resumed seizing bike taxis in Bengaluru, while the apps kept offering them. Check the current position before you rely on one for a daily commute.
